Rapper and composer Sampa Tembo, often known as Sampa the Great, was born in Zambia and now resides in Australia. The Return, her first album released on her own, reached at No. 12 on the ARIA Albums Chart. She won Best Hip Hop Release at the 2019 ARIA Music Awards with her second song, “Final Form.” She won the same award the following year with The Return in addition to Best Female Artist and Best Independent Release.
Tembo relocated to Sydney in 2013 and remained there till 2018. In 2015, she graduated from SAE Institute with a bachelor’s degree in audio engineering. She is based in Melbourne as of 2018. The singer credits the basis of her success to her family and the communities she grew up in, both in Botswana and Zambia.
Sampa Tembo, the middle child of five, was born in Zambia in 1993 and reared there as well as in Botswana. She took piano and singing classes, and at the age of nine, she began composing poetry and songs. She spent two years at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and one year each in Los Angeles in the early 2010s studying music for visual media.
