Yolanda Sargeant, a Canadian vocalist, is known as the Queen of Lo-Fi Soul. After failing to find a label that matches their varied approach, she and her producer Comrade (Evgeniy) invented a genre.
Vocalist Yolanda Sargeant and producer Evgeniy “Comrade” Bykovets started the band in the early 2010s. Before releasing Magic Radio in 2020, they first released the EP Salvage the Soul in 2014 and a series of singles after that. The album’s first hit, “Romance in Outer Space,” has a Kool Keith appearance in rap. The full-length first album Magic Radio by Calgary, Alberta-based Sargeant X Comrade, was a longlisted contender for the 2021 Polaris Music Prize.
They were nominated for two Western Canadian Music Awards in 2021 in addition to their Polaris nomination for Rap & Hip-Hop Artist of the Year and Breakout Artist of the Year.
Additionally, Sargeant contributed vocals to Hello Moth’s 2020 song “Hold Me Up.”
